You want to Club? The Party List - Circuit Parties and more

You can go to any guide to see what clubs are out there, but what do the Three Asian Fags do? Well here's where you find out!

San Francisco, Ca

San Francisco has an array of gay clubs.
There is no point in our going through them all for many of you already know about them. However here we have decided to put our own personal views on some of the clubs and hot spots we have come to know and love.

The Cafe

Situated near the corner of Market and Castro, this staple of the Castro is used to be always free. It now is only free during the weekdays and charges a steep 2 bucks on the weekends. Sometimes they charge on the weekdays too, depending on the night. For instance, Hip Hop night has the tendancy of having a cover charge. It is one of its biggest draws and on some nights, its only draw. The Cafe is split level has a smoking patio area inside, a cozy dance floor, two pool tables, an outer balcony area and two bars. It is a great place to just stop by to see what's going on and maybe do a little dancing if the music is good.

Its been recently renovated to include video screens, though this venue has decided to have video streaming that has nothing to do with the music being played. This can either be very entertaining or very annoying.

Badlands

This place has gotten a bad wrap in recent years. Mostly due to racist issues regarding the owner. For this purpose, many of our citizens chose to protest this club on saturdays. We reserved saturdays as a no Badland's days in support of the protesters views against the owner.

However, the protests are now over and we can all come together once again to Badlands. The 3AF know many people that work at this club and have grown to love it.

This makes this club of the Three Asian Fags personal favorite spots. Why? Videos that go with the music! With their "interesting" selection of music, comes an eclectic assortment of music videos with screens throughout this bar/club. The bartending staff is generally handsome and the music is descent to good at times. Though, they are known to frequently mix genres and decades, which can be vexing. Like the Cafe, it is free during the week but weekends has a small cover.

This is a typical converstation regarding Badlands:

Nam: What are we doing tonight?

Ming: Oh, I had a long day of work and am tired, I'll probably go home.

Nam: Badlands?

Ming: OK

However, the sparj of badlands comes and goes and may be fading quickly.

Bar on Castro

"Everything RED"!, That is the theme at this inimate Castro jem.

What is it about th BAR that make dancers jealous? Well, the small size leaves little room for dancing.. which makes sense, its a BAR! But they have a dedicated DJ spinning giving off the best vibes of all the local dance clubs put together. Come in grab a drink and nod your head to the music.

Thankfully, this has been remodeled and the DJ booth has been maneuvered in such a way that there is now room to dance. However, they have created this red dark glowing ambience that is somewhat happenstance and annoying.

The Bar on Castro will remain a reliable staple of the Gay club scene for years to come. Always packed after 10:00pm, always thumping with good music, and centrally located - the "BOC', as some may refer to it as, is a hallmark of fagdom.

Pendulum

This used to be a place that we swing back and forth on. The music is ever changing from funky to ghetto. But, when the other things started getting too crowded, you wouldn't be surprised to find 3AF lurking around here. It is said that this place is being remodeled... some say its closed forever... whatever happened, we mourne its death.

Moby Dick

Another staple of the Castro, Moby Dick has a more traditional bar like atmosphere. Pinball and Pool table in the back room and a nice mix of people just hanging out and having fun.

The Mix (Uncle Bert's)

Formerly Uncle Bert's (or something like that) This bar has a pool table in the front and a patio in the back. It's another hometown bar if you just want to relax and have a night out with out the "gay" overwhelming you.

Hole in the Wall

This place is great. It's got random stuff strewn about encased in plastic dripping. Friendly service, though sometimes a little rough. This is not the place for everyone, but everyones welcome.

N touch

This is where asians come to be whores. There is a long bar where old men and other asian-o-philes lurk and try to grab you as you walk by if you are to their liking. The music is as usual with some reluctantly enjoyable old songs thrown in the mix. The atmosphere, can border from rude to scary to strangely foreign. Especially since half the guys in the club will be encircling the tiny dance floor watching the loose group of dancers.

Power House

Whip it baby, Whip it. As the name implies, this place is not for the meak. Come prepared for some hardcore aggressive male drunkeness.

Dragon

This is the place where asians go to be whores if they do not like the atmosphere of N touch. It also is an asian-o-phile centric establishment. What it has, that others may no,t is a slightly modern sense of style and options of two dance floors: Dance vs. Hip Hop.

If we had to go to an asian specific club, this would probably be the one... unless we're in New York... which then would be the Web.

The Stud

The Stud is another of 3AFs all time favorites. It hosts a different party every night, most notably Trannyshack on tuesdays and Sugar on the weekend. Trannyshack is a delicious drag show which play on various themes that come up in the news or simply up their asses. This is a definite stop for anyone who wants SF culture mixed with SF clubbing and SF gay.

The Pilsner

This place reminds me of cheers in a way. A little bit outside the beaten path of the standard bars, it has a definite working fags feel to it. Patio in the bar beer and pool in the front. What more can you ask for?

Mezzanine

This was supposed to contend with Universe. I guess its ok. I have always had a special place for clubs that have an almost obligatory "take of your shirt policy". But of course, this is a double edged sword, since some people take off their shirt without merit. This place received a lot of hype. Perhaps the hype will dilute away and it will just be a fun place to hang out and dance at. Right now it reminds me of the Factory in LA which I love, however without the wonderful lounge and bar areas. There is an upstairs area, but that requires walking.

We went once. And we did have fun, though we also had to pay 15 bucks to get in. Badlands anyone?

Metropolis

This is a once a month party in the Southern part of San Francisco by Gus Presents. It is nice party, with fresh fruit, good music, two DJs, (upstairs is better as usual), and bowls of candy loosely distributed around the large complex. This is another Universe contender that I think works. They have dancers on various stages and they are usually extremely well "formed".

There was also a masseuse that comes into so you can get a massage while if your alittle tired. Plenty of sitting room in various lounges, and bars galore for the drunk at heart. The outside patio area has seating as well for you smokers or if your simply to hot for the club.

The Eagle

The eagle is one of those unsung gems of the city. It has a great leather, bear, daddy, outside courtyard, american biker atmosphere. It sports multiple bars, and great music on thursdays and beer busts on sundays. The atmosphere may frighten the common gay, however for those of you that like to just hang out with some friends, this is a great place to do it. The almost "Mad Max: beyond thunderdome" style water hole is a must see for the true versatile san franciscan gay.

Fresh

Fresh is held on one or two Sundays a month at Ruby Skye. Ruby Skye is one of the most state of the art clubbing venues in the city. Mainly boasting straight dance events, Fresh is a refreshing sunday tea dance with an emphasis on hot boys, typical dance music, and shirtlessness. It is a multi-level venue allowing a high balcony for dance floor gawking as well as a nice back room for smoking and playing pool. Also, a lounge area is situated near the dance floor for rest between good songs.. if you can find a seat!

Open your pocket books boys, it's one of the highest tickets in town.

Lime

Lime is one of the newer venues on the Market side of Castro. Just a few blocks from the notable Cafe, Lime is a straight fags paradise. It has the slight ambiance of New Yorks Excel crossed with a good LA night club. The decor is retro-modern, mostly in white, accented with pink lighting. Lime is actually a restaurant with a very good bar. They serve excellent Mojitos, Vanilla Mojitos, and Adios Motherfuckers. Food is served until midnight and offers a variety of american/california kitchen appetizers to munch on. After midnight the bar becomes packed with local party goers looking for a good drink.

Lime gets 3AFs drunken thumbs up.

The Crib (formerly Faith)

This club is on Thursday nights from 9pm-ish to 3am- ish and is one of the few if only 18 and over establishments in the city. For those of you that remember Faith, the venue is the same. However the obvious shift in the young/hipster paradigm can be seen with the thumping bass of hip hop. Great scene for a younger crowd.

SF Underground (DRUNK and HORNY)

This place is so crowded. Good music, in the haight, get drunk and horny. Expect a long wait for a drink unless you know the bartender. GO GO GO.

East and South Bay, Ca

Though cloaked by San Francisco at times, the Greater Bay Area offers its on assortment of clubs.

- South Bay -

Splash

Splash is a fun little club that opened up recently. Its in a side street in the downtown area and has the usual gay mix of dance music. It's nice if you want a hoppin' san jose club. Boasts two floors with an upstairs balcony dance floor that's outside and has a neat oldstyle fireplace.

Tinkers Damn

Tinkers Damn has been a South Bay hot spot for ages. Though I cannot say it is the best club, I can say it is one of few that has persisted and offers refuge for those who are unable to travel to SF. The Bar reminds me of rural gay bar i once went to in Idaho. I standard Bar, seating area, pool table and small dance floor. There is a small display case of sports memorabilia in the corner, pac-man coin operated video machine, and down to earth friendly people. Their is a regular crowd nightly and they have various shows through the week. If you are in the South Bay, just stop by for the heck of it.

King of Clubs

This place used to be where the boys from Moffet Field went on their time off. In a secret location off the 101 on the other side of the old military base is King of Clubs. Interesting mix of people and great bartending staff. The crowd comes and goes and the music sometimes leans toward the more "latin" oriented crowd.

- East Bay -

White Horse

A jewel of the East Bay. The White Horse is an honest to goodness Bar. You come, you drink, you drink some more. Where other clubs give the gay lifestyle a bad wrap, with their attention to dancing and Madonna, this bar tells all those people out there that gays can drink at a bar just like everyone else and we can watch sports too.

Reno, Nevada

Partially hidden away in Reno, is a gay nightlife waiting to be explored.

Cadillac Lounge

This place starts out a little werid because you are not sure exectly how to get in. All you know is that there is a sign for the cadillac lounge and that maybe there is something to do inside. Once you get inside, you are greated by your average bar and pool table setup that you would expect from anywhere in Reno. However, hidden behind the pool room is a nice little dance floor setup which could be interesting.

However, the week we went no one was on the dance floor so we sat around watching people play pool and contemplating where we were going to go next.

Quest

I am not sure if I am getting the spelling of this place right, but this is what I remember. The little bar has the same setup as Ntouch, with the bar going the length of the narrow establishment which opens up to a small dance floor at the end. Unlike Ntouch, this place has descent music and descent guys. Its a nice place to hang out and meet and greet the Gays of Reno.

South Lake Tahoe, California/Stateline, Nevada

Hit the slopes in the winter or cruise the lake in the summer.... but at night

Faces

So you just hit the slopes? Hiked around the crystal clear Lake? Night time and just don't want to throw another 1000 bucks on the roulette tables? Well look no further, there is Faces. Faces is a nice local bar. It has the typical dance floor and video games, but the nice thing about it is that its gay away from home. This venue needs you to spice it up. Come with friends and come with the mindset to get drunk and have your own fun. Or better yet, go gamble at Caesars palace, get drunk on free booze and then come out to Faces to drink more. The staff is friendly and the locals are always around to watch the new meat from the towns pass through.

Los Angeles, CA

West Hollywood can be thought of as the Castro of Southern California. But we will attest that nothing beats the Castro. West Hollywood is a completely different animal than the Castro with its Pros and Cons. One of the biggest Pros is space, the clubs and lounges in West Hollywood are considerably larger hosting a larger concentration of Gays from the outlying greater Los Angeles area. However, it comes with a price... everyone has that certain "charm" that LA is known for.

The Abbey

The best way to describe our affection with the Abbey is by example:

Ming: What are we doing this weekend?

Nam: I dunno what time is it?

Ming: It's 7:00 PM

Nam: Hmmm.... well if we drive now we can get to the Abbey by midnight.

Ming: OK

The Abbey is a giant cafe which serves food during the day and is a hotspot at night. It doesn't have a dance floor but its a huge space with descent music and lots of places to sit and lounge around. This is cruise central and where we tend to begin our day... or night.

HERE

Four words: BUFF SHAVED SHIRTLESS MEN

The bartenders in this establishment seem to have been plucked from a magical realm where people work out three hours a day seven times a week and smother themselves in olive oil.

For that reason alone, 3AF gives this place overwhelming approval.

It also has a nice get together on Superbowl Sunday, which leads us to our next quote.

Nam: Are you done seeing the superbowl, we have a long drive back to San Francisco.

Ming: What time is it?

Nam: Its 6:00PM

Ming: If we leave at 7:00PM we can be at Badlands by Midnight.

Nam: OK

Mickeys

Mickeys is an interesting hangout with a lot of asians at times. The music here has sucked everytime I have come. But, sometimes they have pretty cute guys dancing, especially a certain dancer wearing a kilt...

This is also the place that a man kindly solicited his services toward a friend and I, which we respectfully declined.

RAGE

Rage is another WeHo staple. Why? I dunno. Its got a dance floor various shows and is packed during the weekends. It rests between Mickey's and the Abbey in classinest. We definitely recommend coming in for a look-see.

New York, New York

Its the Big Apple! Ya want clubs... let me tell ya

Splash

Splash is neat club boasting two levels and a club clothing outfitter downstairs! So, if you see someone with the same thing you got on, you can just buy something new.

XL

Another Multilevel establishment. I was impressed by the atmosphere but not by the Men. Maybe we came on a bad day.

The Web

This is New York's Ntouch, except that we actually like it. Much more room and better music. They also had a nice stripping contest where we got to see this very nice man that we named "Hot Chocolate". Definitely a must see for asians and the asian-o-philes.

The Big Cup

This is not a club, but is actually a coffee place. It is fun and cruisy. Come and plan your day or week with other gays. But actually now to think about it, I think this place closed down. Sorry for mentioning it.

Roxy

HUGE. This place is SO huge. If you get separated from your friends, then good luck cause you'll never see them again and they may even end up in Brooklyn.

This is the premium gay club of New York with a Universe style atmosphere but with five times more space. It is a feast for the senses. You start out by paying your life savings and then walking up this giant hallway of stairs to a coat check factory where you unload more money to the clubbing gods. Once in the dense fog makes you think that the club goes on forever. Then you walk into the fog and find out that the club actualy does go on forever. If you have to go to one club, go to this one just to see the gross giganticism that is the Roxy.

Barrage

The Barrage is a sweet little bar with pictures of models on the wall. It is a small establishment but a great place to meet random men.
